Katena introduces a new soft IOL cutter for explanting lenses. The cutter is designed with a fixed lower blade for insertion under the IOL and an upper movable blade for cutting so that blade movement can be visualized by the surgeon. The 6mm long blades have serrated edges to grasp the IOL surface and prevent it from slipping away during cutting. This new cutter uses a ronguer mechanism to provide the strength for cleanly cutting even the thickest soft IOLs without twisting. The round shank easily fits through a 3mm incision.
The instrument has been provided with a luer fitting for cleaning the tubular shank to remove residual BSS or viscoelastic.
